Ah, blogs. They’ve been around since roughly 1994, and have grown and literally provided full time job occupations for people since then. In today’s TikTok-Instagram age though, they tend to be a little more forgotten. Sure, we’ll still travel to an article from time to time, but chances are unless it’s from someone we care about, it’s usually going to get a skim read at best.
So then why am I here? Well, the fact of the matter is I’ve never made content for other people. And by that I mean that I do not make content with the goal of gaining attention or credit or fame. I have always had a burning internal flame of creativity that yearns to be used, and my desire is to find resistance-free ways of letting it burn. Blogging is simply one method of doing so.
Thus here we are, what I am calling the Chest of Thoughts. And not just any Chest of Thoughts, my Chest of Thoughts. Everyone has one, and I am cracking mine open for the world to see, granted most will probably not. But you, dear reader, are invited to.

Right off the bat, I want to express that this isn’t going to be a “professional” blog. I’m not going to spend all my posts talking about how I make videos for clients. That is a process that is unique and distinctive for every person I work for, and while it is something that is very important to me, it is not something I plan on getting into.
Instead, I am going to be talking about the things that my professional title, ‘joelpetersmedia’, is rooted in. I initially came up with it when YouTube decided to make unique handles for every channel, and with a name as generic as ‘Joel Peters’, you can imagine I wasn’t landing anything convenient. Racking my brain for ideas as to what to add, I came up with the word ‘media’, which to my surprise was available. Media can mean many things, often used as a name for the force that ends up cancelling people who say something controversial. In my brain however, it means any sort of electronic medium of entertainment or communication, from television programs to video games.
And since I happen to be a strong hobbyist in those departments, it made sense to me. While it aged well into my current professional occupation, at the end of the day my love for gaming, storytelling, film, and analyzing stuff is still prevalent. You can give me any moment from a Lost episode, and I will probably be able to identify the season, episode number, name, and my ranking of the episode compared to the other 120 of the show.

When I am at the Dentist getting cavities filled and am trying to distract myself, I recite out the Civilization 6 tech tree in my head. To go with my breakfast, I binge watch multi-hour video essays on anything from Sega Saturn games to the latest Puss in Boots movie.
No matter which way you slice it, I am a nerd, through and through. And do I care if other people find that to be a problem? Nope. Don’t care, didn’t ask. My ability to ignore societal standards is beyond exceptional, and perhaps my greatest talent, much to the chagrin of the women in my life that want me to dress nice when I go out in public.
You can expect this blog to be a reflection of that, ignoring the expectations of society and a place for me to neatly rant about whatever I choose. It will likely be about a lot of TV shows, movies, and the like, but I am not going to restrict it to any particular topic. After all, this is my Chest of Thoughts, there could be anything in there.
